Based in Boston, Cherry Kim has taught for over 15 years. In her work with students she emphasizes a natural approach to cello playing through understanding of how the body and the instrument work together. Lessons cover fundamentals of cello technique, how to play in various musical styles, discovery of structure and harmony in music and efficient practicing. Her approach is fitted to the individual student's needs and to guiding them to be thoughtful musicians.
Dr. Kim has taught at the ArtsAhimsa Music Festival, Camp Encore/Coda, Winchester Community Music School's Summer Chamber Music Festival, and non-major cello students at Rice University and Boston University. She has coached cello sectionals for the New England Conservatory Preparatory Orchestras and was a teaching artist at Boston and Newton public schools. Currently, she teaches through the Boston Cello Academy. Her students’ achievements include participation in the Massachusetts District and State Orchestras.
